CBD FAQs
It's Smart to Ask Questions.
CBD is still relatively new to the general public, so almost everyone has some questions before they try it out. Here are some common ones we often hear. If there's anything else you need to know, just ask us.
What’s the Difference Between Hemp and Marijuana?
Marijuana contains a high amount of the intoxicating cannabinoid delta-9-tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC), which is used for therapeutic, medical purposes and recreational uses. Hemp is grown for the production of seed and fiber, containing low amounts of THC but high amounts of a non-intoxicating cannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD). CBD has become highly recognized in the medical community for its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotectant properties. Marijuana and hemp are significantly differentiated on a genetic level; the chemical makeup of hemp has less < 0.3% THC.
Are Hemp Extracted Cannabinoids as Good as Marijuana?
The molecular structure remains consistent regardless of the plant variety. Marijuana is typically bred to produce high levels of THC, often neglecting other non-intoxicating cannabinoids such as CBD, CBC, CBG, CBN, etc., whereas hemp is bred to produce very low levels of THC, and is naturally rich in CBD.
Where is Calyx CBD Derived From?
Calyx CBD is derived from non-GMO mature industrialized hemp stalks. It is CO2 extracted and then takes form as a crystalline, tested at 99% purity. All Calyx products, ingredients, and equipment are pharmaceutical grade, regulated through a Health Canada standard.
What are the Benefits of Using Grapeseed Oil as a Base?
Grapeseed oil is high in omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E, adding an extra anti-inflammatory and antioxidant boost.
What are the Benefits of Using MCT Oil?
MCT (medium chain triglycerides) have antibacterial and antiviral properties. Derived from palm and coconut oil, it is translucent, tasteless and easily digestible.
What is the Right Dosage?
Any holistic, natural remedy is specific to the individual using it for their own medicinal needs. Each presenting ailment and the true cause for it requires guided scientific and intuition-based treatment. Natural remedies connect the patient to the plant and put the responsibility back into their own hands to self-heal. Everyone’s individual bioavailability and endocannabinoid tone are variable, thus personal dosage and the journey will be different. The World Health Organization conducted a study on CBD late 2017 that states cannabidiol is “generally well tolerated, with a good safety profile.'' Their dosage framework ranged from 100mg-800mg per day on human subjects. From a Veterinarian perspective, their tier level dosage is based on the weight from 0.05mg per lb, to 0.125mg per lb and finally 0.25mg per lb.

How Do I Take It?
Depending on the type of product, CBD is commonly taken under the tongue (tinctures), swallowed (capsules, edibles, liquids), applied topically (creams, salves, ointments) or inhaled (e-liquids). Tinctures are meant to be taken and held under the tongue using a dropper. CBD is absorbed more efficiently this way compared to when swallowed.
We also offer a line of tinctures in a range of flavors and concentrations for pets. With pets, it’s best to give them a dose on a spoon rather than by dropper – it’s easier, cleaner and safer for the pet, who will not hold the oil under their tongue anyway!
What Carrier Agents are Used in Calyx Tinctures?
Calyx tincture series contains pharmaceutical grade MCT (medium chain triglyceride from coconut oil) and Grapeseed oil carrier agents and is a sub-lingual application. The effect of these carriers amplifies cannabidiols natural anti-inflammatory properties to boost immune health.
